Completion of a Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant study program based at an accredited four-year college or junior college, or of any Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant study program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) plus two years of paralegal experience.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A Juris Doctorate may be substituted for the study programs specified above.
Possession of the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) certification issued by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. may be substituted for the study programs specified above.
NOTE:
The non ABA-approved Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant program must be based at a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Incorporated; the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools; the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the Western Association of Schools and Colleges; or at a school accredited by a professional or national accreditation organization, such as the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), which is a member of the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation (CORPA) and formerly the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation (COPA).
The Office of the Governor/Louisiana Public Defender Board has two Paralegal 2 vacancies. The pay grade level assigned to this job title is AS-614. This position will be filled as a Probational appointment, anyone may apply.
No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. This position is responsible for a variety of advanced paralegal and administrative support services for Capital and Juvenile Divisions including but not limited to: intake, management, maintenance of sensitive and confidential information regarding statewide capital trial, appellate, post conviction, and juveline cases; management of case file and date system program and procedures; maintenance of attorneys resource materials, work product, calendars, weekly work plans, logs, travel, timesheets and other time sensitive documents and deadlines. Preference may be given to applicants with knowledge and experience in the Louisiana judicial, legislative and governmental system; utilization of traditional and internet legal research methods; advanced organizational and administrative skills. Accounting experience and computer skills (Excel, Word and Outlook) are also preferred.
