1. A baccalaureate degree in social work! ; psychology; psychiatric nursing; psychiatry; mental health counseling; rehabilitation counseling; psychological counseling; criminal justice; sociology; applied sociology; human services counseling; education with a concentration in special education; family and consumer sciences with a concentration in child, family and social services; guidance and counseling; human development counseling; social services counseling; vocational rehabilitation; or human services plus one year of professional social services experience.
2. A baccalaureate degree in a non-related field plus two years of professional social services experience.
3. A master's degree in social work; psychology; psychiatric nursing; psychiatry; mental health counseling; rehabilitation counseling; psychological counseling; criminal justice; sociology; applied sociology; human services counseling; education with a concentration in special education; family and consumer sciences with a concentra! tion in child, family and social services; guidance and counse! ling; human development counseling; social services counseling; vocational rehabilitation; or human services.
4. A master's degree in a non-related field plus one year of professional social services experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.

Individuals occupying this job who are subject to state licensing or registration laws administered by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners must possess and keep current the license or registration.
NOTE:
Preference will be given to qualified candidates with a master's degree in social work.

The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15.587.1 (c).

Examples of Work:
Participates in setting case plans and objectives in family team conferences and agency staffings; prepares cases for presentation to the multi-discip! linary team for consultation; coordinates with other professionals regarding the needs of the child, family, and/or parent.
Provides supportive counseling and other supportive services for clients and arranges for the provision of services from community resources based on the case plan.
Interviews and establishes working relationships with children and families. Composes correspondence to compile social summaries and/or assessments.
Prepares and submits appropriate reports to the Court and/or District Attorney on cases in compliance with state laws and agency policy; prepares and submits necessary affidavit. Testifies in court proceedings.

CHILD PROTECTION INVESTIGATION:
Obtains identifying information; determines if the report meets intak! e requirement as established by state law; determines the current status of the child and/or adult to evaluate extent of danger/risk; determines priority level of report; prepares complaint form.
Conducts investigations of allegations of abuse and/or neglect of children and or adults in accordance with agency policy and state law.
Provides those services required for the child's immediate safety. Provides those immediate services required during the investigative process and makes appropriate referral to family services or community resources.
May serve on 24-hour on-call duty to respond to child abuse and/or neglect reports.
FOSTER CARE:
Assesses, develops, and executes a plan to achieve permanence for the child including return to the family, adoptions, transfer of custody, independent living, or other alternative plans.
Provides child welfare services to a caseload of children removed from their homes by court order! , voluntary surrender, or voluntary placement agreement and placed in a foster home or a more restrictive setting.
Locates, selects and oversees the most appropriate placement or change of placement for a child.
Develops and implements a recruitment plan for certifying perspective foster and adoptive families.
Prepares and conducts extensive orientation and training for potential foster and adoptive homes.
Through written home studies, examines and evaluates information gathered about families, housing, and environment in relation to agency criteria and licensing regulation for certification of perspective adoptive and foster homes.
Re-evaluates for continued annual re-certification for foster and adoptive homes. Develops and implements a corrective action plan to correct deficiencies.
Maintains a listing of all foster and adoptive homes in area and recommends appropriate resources to workers placing children.
PREVENTION:
Assesses needs in response to identified problems! with particular focus on those affecting the parent/child relationship, parenting ability or other factors contributing to the abusive and/or neglectful environment in the family.
