A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional experience in a residential, correctional, mental health, or group ! home setting with responsibility for one of the following: rehabilitation of delinquent youth, clinical care, custody, or security. OR A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional social services or counseling experience. SUBSTITUTIONS: Eight years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree. Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to qualify as follows: A maximum of 90 semester hours may be combined with experience to qualify. 15 to 29 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience. 30 to 44 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience. 45 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience. 60 to 74 semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience. 75 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for five years of experience. 90 or more semester hours credit will substitute for six y! ears of experience. College credit earned without obtaining a ! baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of six years full-time work experience. Candidates with 90 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to qualify. A masterâs degree in a behavioral or social science field; education; public or business administration; or criminal justice may be substituted for one year of the required experience. A doctoral degree in a behavioral or social science field; education; public or business administration; or criminal justice may be substituted for two years of the qualifying experience. Degrees in qualifying fields will substitute for a maximum of two years of the qualifying experience. NOTE: An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge may be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted. NOTE: Any college hour! s or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Differs from Youth Facility Deputy Director by the absence of responsibility for all institutional operations.
Examples of Work:
Assists the Youth Facility Deputy Director and Youth Facility Director in the administration of a comprehensive professional program for juvenile offenders who have been committed for offenses ranging from misdemeanors to felonies (e. g., shoplifting to rape to all grades of homicide).
Assists in directing all phases of institution security operations.
Contributes to the preparation and administration of the institution's security budget.
Assists in developing and insuring the implementation of institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
Conducts investigations relating to grievances filed by employees and offenders.
Maintains communications with a large number of judges and appropriate members of courts ! using a statewide network of juvenile probation workers, representatives of community agencies, and the juvenile justice system.
Coordinates the review and evaluation process for continued American Corrections Association (ACA) accreditation.
Participates in all facility boards and makes recommendations to the Youth Facility Director concerning inmate status.
Inspects buildings and grounds in order to ensure proper security policies and procedures are followed.
