This position is located in the Wage and Hour Division, New Orleans District Office, New Orleans, Louisiana. This position performs technical and administrative duties in support of the laws enforced by the Wage and H! our Division.

This position has promotion potential t! o the grade of GS-07.

Payment of relocation expenses has not been authorized. KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship.
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Requires a probationary period.
Appointment to this position may require a background investigation. DUTIES:
Respond to verbal and written inquiries form employees, employers, attorneys, private accountants, and labor union officials from private industry and representative from Federal or local government agencies. Provide information about the laws enforced by the Wage and Hour Division and questions concerning court decisions. Receive incoming telephone calls from complainants and independently exercises judgment in determining whether the complaint appears to be valid and requires further action. In those instances where an investigation is not warranted, an attempt is made for conciliation. Evaluate complaints to determine if probable violations exist and if the conditions described come und! er the jurisdiction of the Wage and Hour Division. Recommend an investigation or conciliation action, as appropriate. Conduct records examinations and interviews to establish violations, drafts necessary documents, computes monetary amounts due and, if authorized, negotiates with the employer or their representative for compliance and payment of back wages. Accompanies and assists Investigators in conducting investigations primarily directed towards large firms where violations are considered to be complex in nature. Assist with various administrative assignments. Use the computer to perform assignments not limited to but including reports, outlines, graphics, case tracking, speeches, handbooks, memoranda and transmit/receive information involving National Office and District Offices via the Electronic Communication Network. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the ! Federal Service (GS-05). Specialized Experience: Experience that equipp! ed the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes experience providing support to Compliance investigators; providing technical information regarding laws/regulations enforced by the agency to the public; and interpreting and applying laws and regulations.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: Typing Proficiency. Applicants must document their ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

Education may not be substituted for the required specialized experience for this position.
