A master's degree in criminal justice; education with a conce! ntration in special education or guidance and counseling; family life education (child development or early childhood education); psychology; sociology; applied sociology; vocational education; pastoral counseling; counseling; vocational rehabilitation counseling; vocational rehabilitation; rehabilitation counseling; or human development counseling. 3. A baccalaureate degree in social work plus one year of professional social services experience. 4. A baccalaureate degree plus two years of professional social services experience. SUBSTITUTIONS (FOR OPTION 4 ONLY): Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree. Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows: A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree. 30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one ! year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 60 to 89 ! semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment may be required. NOTE: Some positions may require regulation as a Registered Social Worker (RSW), Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). NOTE: Any college hours! or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Job Distinctions:
Differs from Social Services Counselor in Priority Programs by the responsibility for providing specialized social services in protective services programs.
Differs from Adult Protection Specialist 2 by the type of supervision received and the absence of independence of action.
Examples of Work:
May perform the following duties under close supervision:
Serve as intake worker. Provides guidance on case assessment, case acceptance, allegation coding, determining risk of harm and priority level, ! crisis intervention, referrals when case is not accepted, and all aspec! ts of intake function.
Maintains agency resource directories, files and updates. Provides information regarding protective services to other agencies, organizations, and to individuals upon request.
Assists the unit manager in examining and revising intake procedures and materials.
Provides specialized services in cases related to reports of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or extortion of adults.
Obtains identifying information; determines if reports meets eligibility requirements as established by state law; determines the allegation coding; and, prepares incident report form.
Conducts investigations of allegation of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation of adults in accordance with agency policy and state law.
Assesses adult's home environment, living situation, functional and mental capacity and other factors to determine the risk of harm to the adult and the need for crisis intervention.
Provides those services r! equired for the adult's immediate safety; i.e., removal from or placement with relatives or in a temporary shelter.
Provides case maintenance; develops and implements a service plan outlining services need to address immediate and long term issues. Refers adult client to appropriate community resources.
Monitors compliance with the service plan to assure the situation is stabilized and/or the risk to the adult is reduced.
Writes and maintains highly confidential case files. Performs regular case maintenance activities including documenting actions, making narrative entries, preparing necessary reports and social summaries.
Establishes adult's ability to make decisions based on personal assessment; review of existing medical records, psychological records, evaluations by appropriate professionals; and interviewing treating professionals.
Works with coroner, service agencies, law enforcement, district attorneys, and agency legal st! aff to initiate legal actions necessary to protect adults.
Att! ends and participates in formal and informal training programs and seminars such as those relative to adult abuse, neglect or exploitation, investigative and assessment techniques, legal issues, and safety procedures.
