1. A baccalaureate degree in social work; psychology; psychiatric nursing; psychiatry; mental heal! th counseling; rehabilitation counseling; psychological counseling; criminal justice; sociology; applied sociology; human services counseling; education with a concentration in special education; family and consumer sciences with a concentration in child, family and social services; guidance and counseling; human development counseling; social services counseling; vocational rehabilitation; or human services plus four years of professional social services experience, three years of which must have been in child welfare.
2. A baccalaureate degree in a non-related field plus five years of professional social services experience, three years of which must have been in child welfare.
3. A master's degree in social work; psychology; psychiatric nursing; psychiatry; mental health counseling; rehabilitation counseling; psychological counseling; criminal justice; sociology; applied sociology; human services counseling; education with a concentration in special edu! cation; family and consumer sciences with a concentration in c! hild, family and social services; guidance and counseling; human development counseling; social services counseling; vocational rehabilitation; or human services plus three years of professional child welfare social services experience.
4. A master's degree in a non-related field plus four years of professional social services experience, three years of which must have been in child welfare.

Telework Home Location- This is a fully functional worksite, generally located in an employeeâs home, involving no facility costs to DCFS. Assure that your work station is private, secure, and is in compliance wi! th confidentiality mandates of DCFS Policy and Procedures. High speed i! nternet with specific upload and download speeds is required. Shift work is required. This includes work on weekends and holidays. Location of Work:
Department of Social Services, Office of Community Services-Telework Home Location. Must have a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.
Examples of Work: The Centralized Intake System is required to receive, review, assess and respond to reports received regarding alleged abuse or neglect of children by the Department 24 hours a day/365 days a year. Child Welfare Specialists assigned to DCFS Centralized Intake which is assigned to the Field Operations Division, are responsible for the following: Answer calls received through the DCFS Centralized Intake Hotline promptly and politely. Receive and document information reported by the caller promptly and communicate (oral and written) this information in a clear manner. Assure that information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident bein! g reported is documented and is sufficient to determine if the information meets the required elements of a Report according to State Law and Departmental Policy. Information will be collected relative to the functioning of the family. Work in multiple data systems to gather information related to calls received. Provide quality customer service though the use of actively listening to callers, interview skills, and through the provision of information relative to community resources.

Examples of Work:
Provides supportive counseling and other supportive services for clients and arranges for the provision of services from community resources based on the case plan.
Participates in setting case plan goals/objectives in family team conferences and agency staffing.
Interviews and establishes working relationships with children and families. Composes correspondence to compile social summaries and/or assessments.
Prepares and submits appropriate report! s to the Court and/or District Attorney on cases; prepares and submits necessary affidavit; and testifies in court proceedings.
Serves as the agency liaison to other social service, educational, or law enforcement agencies.

Child Welfare Specialist 3 may perform the following duties based upon program assignment:
CHILD PROTECTION INVESTIGATION:
Obtains identify! ing information, determines if the report meets intake requirements; de! termines the current status of the child to evaluate extent of danger/risk; determines priority level of the report; prepares complaint form to give to supervisor for assignment.
Conducts investigations of allegations of abuse and/or neglect of children. Manages routine or specialized investigations.
Carries a caseload of selected complex cases in which abuse and/or neglect has been validated requiring highly specialized diagnosis, assessment, intervention techniques and complex service plans.
Evaluates and provides those services required for the child's immediate safety. Provides those immediate services required during the investigative process and makes appropriate referral to family services or community resources.
Presents investigative findings to child death review, citizen review, and internal child fatality review panels.
Prepares and submits appropriate affidavit reports to the Court and/or District Attorney, and testi! fies at court proceedings.
May serve on 24-hour on-call duty to respond to child abuse/neglect reports.
Provides on-the-job investigation training to Child Welfare Specialists 1 and Child Welfare Specialists 2.
ADOPTION SERVICES:
Recruits adoptive homes for children who are legally available for adoption and do not have an adoptive resource.
Completes assessment of children available for adoption; prepares children and families for adoptive placement.
Completes comprehensive background history that is made available to children and adoptive families.
Prepares and submits material to the family service worker for termination of parental rights, abandonment or voluntary surrender, when determined to be in the best interests of the child.
Represents the agency in juvenile court proceedings by presenting service plans and progress reports on children in caseload.
PREVENTION:
Carries a ! caseload of selected complex cases in which abuse, and/or neglect has b! een validated requiring highly specialized diagnosis, assessment, intervention techniques and complex service plans.
Assesses service needs in response to identified problems and directly provides intensive intervention to families and children in a complex/specialized caseload.
FOSTER CARE:
Provides specialized child welfare services to a caseload of children placed in residential care; children who have been diagnosed with severe emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders; or children who have been sexually abused.
