A baccalaureate degree plus four years of profes! sional level experience in juvenile probation and parole. 2. A baccalaureate degree plus four years of experience in a correctional or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation or classification of offenders, two years of this experience must have been in a position at least equivalent in scope of responsibility and/or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Major in State service. SUBSTITUTIONS: Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree. Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows: A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree. 30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience! towards the baccalaureate degree. 90 to 119 semester hours cr! edit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree. A master’s degree in corrections criminology, penology, human service counseling, psychology, or social work will substitute for one year of the required general experience. Graduate training in corrections, criminology, counseling, penology, psychology or social work will substitute for one year of the required general experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience. NOTE: Graduate training and degree w! ill substitute for a maximum of one year of the required general experience. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment. Willingness and ability to handle and carry firearms. Successful completion of Corrections Juvenile Services--Agent Curriculum. NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Direct line over Probation and Parole Supervisors--Juvenile, Probation and Parole Officers 3--Juvenile, and clerical staff.

Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DPSC), Corrections Services, Office of Youth Development.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Probation and Parole Supervisors--Juvenile and Probation and Parole Officer 3--Juvenile by managerial responsibility for all juvenile services in a region.

Differs from Probation and Parole District Managers 1 and 3--Juvenile by responsibility for a regional office with monthly workload activity from 1200 to 3000 hours.

Examples of Work:
Drafts and submits for approval program objectives related to delinquency prevention, placement, and supervision of youth under court-orde! red supervision.

Participates with managers from other youth-serving agencies to ensure interagency coordination.

Determines needed resources (staff and materials) on the district level to attain stated objectives and devises methods and procedures to be used to accomplish the work.

Ensures that agency policies concerning the assessment and assignment of juvenile offenders are carried out and that youth and their families receive the most appropriate services available to meet their needs.

Provides technical assistance to subordinate program managers as well as other juvenile justice professionals (community-based program directors and judges) on agency policies and plans and the establishment of new juvenile programs within the district.

Establishes priorities for the operation of the district office.

Ensures that contracted programs funded by the OYD (i.e., shelter care, alternate care, and community-based prevention p! rograms) operate within established policies and procedures.

P! repares necessary reports and documents on the achievements accomplished or barriers to be overcome with respect to agency objectives.

Evaluates work operations for effectiveness and efficiency on the district level and participates in the evaluation and monitoring of OYD programs outside the region as needed or requested.

Prepares and completes special assignments given by the program director and the Assistant Secretary.

Supervises subordinate program managers, assigns duties, and evaluates work performance.

Makes initial recommendations on all personnel actions in the regional office.
