Inspector Plumbing work activities involve enforcing the City's Comprehensive Building Code, Part 2 (Plumbing and Gas Piping Code) by performing the duties contained therein! and paraphrased as follows: Examines applications for permits and accompanying plans, plats, blueprints and specifications. Conducts on-site inspections of new installations, alterations and repairs. Directs corrective actions to insure conformity with Code, or halts work, as appropriate. Records results of inspections on specified forms. Investigates reports of unauthorized work and directs discontinuance pending receipt of application for such work by the City. Upon final inspection, approves applications which conform with the Code. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years experience at the Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber plus Water Safety Protection Specialist (WSPS) Certification.
Thorough knowledge of current Louisiana State Plumbing Code (knowledge may be acquired during Working Test Period); verbal facility; tact and diplomacy, ability to gather and evaluate facts and a demeanor that generate! s confidence, respect and trust.

Possess a valid Loui! siana driver's license.

Successfully complete an acceptable job related certification within one (1) year of employment or within period as extended by the Director of Public Works subject to the availability of training. Current employees within this classification complete the acceptable certification within three (3) years after the training is first offered subsequent to adoption of these class specification amendments. All time requirements of these class specification amendments may be extended by the Director of Public Works as individual circumstances may warrant.

High school graduate or GED equivalent.

Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.

:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS. Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping; some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, f! unctional, or composite characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of construction phases, structural conditions, and architecture designs.

Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving and receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions. Requires the ability to read a variety of technical materials relevant to building regulatory practices ranging from moderate to technically complex levels. Requires the ability to read various discipline languages, i.e., engineering, mechanical, electrical, plumbing. Requires the ability to apply principles of influence, rational systems, and synthesis functions.

Must communicate efficiently and effectively in Standard English. Must speak with poise, confidence, and voice control. Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; interpret graphs; calculate decimals and percentages; utilize algebraic and geometric princi! ples. Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width an! d shape, and visually read various information. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately for inspection tasks and report preparation.

Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. May require the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color. Requires the ability to deal with people from a variety of departments and backgrounds in both giving and receiving instructions. Must be able to perform under stress of frequent deadlines. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging information by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Work Environment: Tasks require infrequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Working around and with machinery having moving parts, heavy dust and loose particles. Working at heights and low areas. Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
