Job Summary
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for conducting field investigations in a fast paced environment. Working at the direct request of attorneys within the Staff Counsel organization conducting investigations on litigated matters in all lines of business, including: Auto, Property, General Liability and Workers Compensation. Providing litigation investigative expertise by building sustainable partnerships to generate investigations, consulting on strategies; conducting and documenting investigations; assessing the value of evidence while providing pre-trial, trial and post-trial support throughout the life of matters being litigated by the Travelers Staff Counsel Organization. This job does not manage staff.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Analyzes, monitors and conveys highly technical information into actionable investigative strategies related to litigated matters within Staff Counsel Conducts thorough litigation field investigations while managing resources with a focus on uncovering all potential evidentiary aspects of litigated matters. Applies the techniques of critical thinking to evaluate information and evidence, and then makes key decisions regarding its value and potential impact to the litigated matters. Applies Local, State and Federal statutes to ensure investigations are carried out within the requirements of applicable law and local law offices expectations Provides exceptional customer service by maintaining contact with business partners, customers and external resources throughout the life of each investigation Acts as a liaison with local/state/federal law enforcement personnel, industry advocates and other companies. Serves as the subject matter expert (liaison) on litigation investigative support to business and industry partners. Applies rules of evidence; recognizes evidence and determines its value to specific claim, evidence collection and interpretation. Establishes and maintains liaison network with public officials, law enforcement officers and others to obtain assistance in conducting investigations. Consults directly with attorneys to develop plans and solutions concerning the investigative opportunities and potential vulnerabilities of the litigated matters assigned. Provides specific and accurate records research to address strategic legal needs and then assess the potential benefits and liabilities to the litigated matter. Provides multifaceted support throughout all phases of the legal process. (Pre-Trial, Trial, Post-Trial) Identifies elements of duty owed, duty breached, proximate cause and damages. Prioritizes strategic business objectives of the law office over the needs of individual cases. Testifies to findings. Designs strategies with the local law offices to expand the use of Staff Counsel. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of five years of investigative experience or a minimum of five years insurance claim related experience or legal related experience required. Valid driver's license required. Public Notary Certification required in specific states. (New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts)

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of 2 years of Technical knowledge of statutory and case law, local rules of court, civil procedures, forensic sciences, techniques of evidence collection, evidence preservation and evidence admissibility, preferred.
