MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level insurance claims adjusting work. One year of the required experi! ence must have involved worker's compensation or property and casualty insurance claims adjusting. SUBSTITUTIONS: Experience in the fields of accident investigation, insurance claims examining, insurance claims investigation or insurance claims adjusting will substitute for the required college training on the basis of 30 semester hours for one year of experience. NOTE: This substitution allows any combination of experience and college hours to substitute for the baccalaureate degree. Thirty semester hours of college training is accepted as equivalent to one year of work experience, and college credit in increments of fewer than 30 hours is prorated on this basis. NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the Northwest Commission on Colleges ! and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Sch! ools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The Division of Administration/Office of Risk Management has one (1) vacancy. This job title has been assigned a pay grade level of AS-617. This position is being announced as Promotional. Only permanent classified fulltime employees of The Division of Administration will be considered. This position is responsible for the management of a claims unit in a fast paced, high volume environment ensuring timely and equitable investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation and settlement of applicable claims administered by a third party administrator. Applicant must be self motivated, detail oriented, possess the ability to multitask, make decisions and possess excellent customer service skills.
Preference may be given to applicant with experience and knowledge of general liability claims handling.
Work schedule will be Monday-Friday with driving and overtime required. No Civil Service test score ! is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. LOCATION OF WORK: Division of Administration and the Office of the Governor. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from the State Risk Adjuster 4 by serving in a supervisory capacit! y and by a higher claim payment authority limit. Differs from the State! Risk Adjuster 6 by the absence of responsibility for the full claims adjusting division.
Examples of Work:
Supervises the activities of adjusters who conduct comprehensive investigations and prepare the defense or negotiate settlement of insurance claims.
Interviews, selects, and trains adjusters in adjusting policies and procedures; assigns work, determines priorities; assesses work of subordinates by reviewing case files for correctness and completeness of data and to ensure adherence to established guidelines, policies and procedures.
Evaluates cases involving litigation and assigns cases to adjusters based on level of complexity; refers the most complex and sensitive cases to the Attorney General for legal opinions, especially cases requiring legal interpretation and/or posing major financial losses to the state; submits all completed case analyses to the Attorney General.
Serves as a voting member of the Claims Council th! at authorizes claims settlements up to a limit of $500,000; monitors payments due to claimants from commercial carriers to ensure payments of claims by private insurers.
Engages in joint projects with the loss prevention unit and the underwriting section, coordinating the activities of subordinate adjusters to address and resolve special problems in specific agencies and departments which have produced, or could result in, personal injury and/or property damage.
Participates in contract negotiation for professional claims adjusting and legal services.
May perform the duties of the State Risk Adjuster 6 in his/her absence.
Supervises and administers the application of the worker's compensation laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; reviews and analyzes applicable legislation and recommends changes as necessary.
Receives and processes all petitions filed by employees to receive compensation for work related injuries; ap! proves cooperative agreements for rehabilitation services, monitoring t! he quality and quantity of work.
Testifies in court with respect to workers' compensation cases.
Oversees the rehabilitation of injured workers, working closely with the rehabilitation efforts of the physician and rehabilitation counselors in an effort to return the claimant to a gainful occupation within the shortest possible time.
Evaluates permanent partial and permanent total disability cases upon completion of the rehabilitation program to determine claimant's occupational ability.
