QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience as a State Fire Marshal Senior Deputy plus one of the following certifications or commissions: 1) Fire Inspector-LSU Office of Academic Affairs Firefighter & Emergency Responder certification or recognized equivalent by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress 2) Fire Investigator â€" National Fire Academy or equivalent recognized by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress 3) NAARSO (National Association of Amusement Ride! Safety Official) 4) National Board of Boiler and Pressure Ves! sel Inspectors 5) Life Safety Code Specialist certification from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services 6) NICET 1 (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in fire alarm or fire sprinkler or special hazards 7) Firefighter 1 â€" Louisiana Fire and Emergency Training Institute or equivalent recognized by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress 8) P. O. S. T. (Peace Officer Standard Training) as a peace officer 9) Certified Building Official â€" International Code Council or any current building inspector certification accepted by the State Fire Marshal’s Office 10)Team Leader â€" National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors or the American Society of Mechanical Engineers .
Only permanent classified employees of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, Office of State Fire Marshal will be considered for promotion to this position.
Preference will be given to applicants with P.O.S.T Certification. ! No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. This vacancy, position #50477080, is located within the State Fire Marshal/Arson Investigation Section and is domiciled in East Baton Rouge Parish. The position will report to the ARSON INVESTIGATION SECTION and will perform SPECIAL SERVICES as directed by the Administration of the State Fire Marshal's Office. The position will require travel to parishes in the vicinity of EAST BATON ROUGE Parish as required per job duties and to areas outside of the domicile as requested by Administration. May serve as an ! assistant to a supervisor or manager by performing administrative functions.
May serve as lead worker, trainer, or mentor over lower-level Deputies.
May conduct the most complex inspections and investigations requiring special certifications.
May serve as subject matter expert to District Attorneys, Attorney General, United States Attorney, and the insurance industry; provides testimony in court as needed.
May assist in coordinating the revision of agency rules, regulations, and procedures to meet required changes; may provide training or conduct presentations on such changes.
May perform grant management tasks and submit related reports.
May assist in preparing legislation.
Works on special projects as assigned.
Identifies and coordinates fire service resources and manpower responding to emergencies in support of the state disaster plan.
Evaluates and inspects emergency shelters for occupancy.
Trains and responds to man-made or natur! al disasters or emergencies including, but not limited to: fire, weathe! r, search and rescue, medical, and hazardous material events.
Performs and assists with on-scene emergency operations including, but not limited to, coordinating resources and/or manpower.
