MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant study program based at an accredited four-year college or junior college, or of any Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant study program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA). SUBSTITUTIONS: A Juris Doctorate may be substituted for the study programs specified above.

Possession of the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) certification issued by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. may be substituted for the study programs specified above.

The non ABA-approved Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant pro! gram must be based at a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Incorporated; the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools; the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the Western Association of Schools and Colleges; or at a school accredited by a professional or national accreditation organization, such as the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), which is a member of the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation (CORPA) and formerly the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation (COPA).

This vacancy is located within Litigation Division within the Louisiana Department of Revenue.

Responsibilities and/or Preferences:
The Litigation Division represents the Department in litigation before the courts and the Board of Tax Appeals and provides legal advice to executive management, other LDR divisions, and other governmental agencies.
Approximately 60% of duties are litigation support responsibilities which include, but are not limited to: Conducts legal research to assist attorneys in case preparation; drafts litigation and discovery pleadings; reviews/summarizes depositions and interviews potential witnesses; drafts closing memos for more complex litigation matters; maintains calendar of trial dates; contacts opposing counsel when needed.
Another 30% of duties are allocated to administrative support functions and 10% to training responsibilities to maintain legal knowledge updated and to comply with LDR’s mandatory training requirements.

Vacancy Information: This position may be filled as either a Probational (open to all! qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agencywide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected.

This position is in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is advertised as a 1 and 2. Only one vacancy exists and the level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. The maximum salary for the highest level of this position, Paralegal 2 , is $29.96 per hour / $62,317.00 per year.
